Wired has a nice read on the Dark Knight filming and how Dir. Christopher Nolan likes to do 8k home movie tests with IMAX cameras. He mentions how he likes to shoot as much practical shots as he can without using CG. This should be another great movie coming out this summer. Wired Story

In partnership with the Executive Producer of OFFF NY, I’m pleased to announce F5, a two-day festival of creativity taking place in New York City. Although the event won’t be until the spring of 2009, I want to put it on your radars now and encourage you to subscribe for updates on the F5 site. In addition to getting F5 news before everyone else, subscribers will get advanced access to ticket sales, which will be limited.I’m not going to say anything more about the event right now, except that it’s going to be amazing. F5 goes beyond just motion graphics into the fields of filmmaking, photography, graphic design, art, music, interactive design, advertising and experience design. The goal of F5 is to change the way you look at creativity, and in so doing, change the way you look at your work and your life.
You bet your butt I will be there and AENY will be supporting Justin @ Motionographer on this venture . Mark those 2009 calendars now it will be here before you know it.
It seems like this past week we lost some amazing people now George Carlin. Like him our not he was not afraid to speak up and say what was on his mind.He was really funny in alot of his roles in movies and tv. I can remember sneaking out to my living room at night to watch his HBO specials when I was younger. RIP George we will miss you . It seems like we always loose good people in 3’s .
RED Build 16 Beta is finally upon us. If the final 16 release delivers what RED is promising, it will only cement it’s existence in the production community. I can’t wait till my number comes up at this point, maybe i’ll just have to go rent another yet again.
AS always!!!! BETA test firmware – not recommended for use on commercial productions. This is especially important if you look at the last line of the release notes below.

No Roll Back! Be wary of upgrading if you’re working your cam alot and you can’t roll back in a pinch, not to mention as RED always warns (as well as anyone else in the tech field) BETA builds are not recommended for commercial projects, i.e. any thing with money riding on it. Beta builds can be extremely unstable and could potentially leave you in the lurch. Also never upgrade in the middle of a project, especially if its Quicktime.
Media Temple which happens to be my hosting of choice for all my sites has gone and done something really cool and set up a beta(private) you can sign up for .(You have to have Mac Sever experience and 10.5 server knowledge). Since TUAW has the skinny on it no need to copy and paste so I will put the links up for Media Temple and Tuaw story. If you are looking at hosting your own server or just some services then check this out very cool things being done with Apple software and dev teams at Media Temple. Stan Winston, an Oscar-winning visual effects artist, has died at age 62.
Winston died at home Sunday evening after a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma, according to a rep from Stan Winston Studio.
“Stan died peacefully at home surrounded by family,” a spokeswoman said.
Winston won three visual effects Oscars and earned multiple nominations. His first Oscar was for James Cameron’s “Aliens” (1986). Winston later won for “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” (1992) and 1993’s “Jurassic Park.“
I’ve been all over the place, going from feature to feature lately, but I have a pile of reviews on my desk that I’ll be filtering in over the next week or two.
