Adobe gets native RED support…..

Jim Jannard from RED says well see it very soon(about a week or so )and I knew it was coming just did not think it was this fast . Looks like eager Adobe has got one up on Apple this time with getting native support for After Effects and Premiere(both Mac and Win , WOW) before FCP Studio Applications.

For all the jokers who thought RED was something to joke about who is laughing now!!!

Awesome job to both teams.

Know your rights as an artist.

Little Airplane Productions fires musicians via the Wall Street Journal . This brings up a good point in knowing what your getting into as an artist wether you are a editor, visual effects, musician or writer . If you have a union find out about it ,see what it has to offer you in your field and why you should know your state laws on workers rights . Remember never let anyone bully you its against the law pulling intimidation on workers.I hope the musicians and artists at Little Airplane get what is deserved and not to be treated like they have been.

Broadcast Terminology Roundup

My good friend from Australia John Dickinson is a motion graphics designer and Sr Broadcast Designer for Foxtel . John has a great site full of tutorials and one of the recent posts I thought I would share with everyone about some broadcast terminology you may or may not know Motionworks Broadcast Terminology

John also has a killer series of training DVD’S called Making it Look Great .

My buddy Harry J. Frank has done a DVD as well for the series and all of them are really helpful if you are doing broadcast design work with Zaxwerks,Red Giant and Trapcode Plugins.

Here are some more links that would be helpful.

What’s Up Dock?

Mac No Comments

Jim’s post on customizing your Final Cut Pro setup reminded me of a little thing I do to help speed my own workflow and keep my dock from getting a little cluttered.

I use a a group of short cut folders embedded in my dock. Generally I use these to group applications in a way that allows me to access them faster without having to have 60 applications in my dock.

I create a folder in my documents and call it Alias

Then within it I’ve created folders for each group - in my example I have a Final Cut Studio Folder, Adobe CS 3 and Office 08.

I then make alias’ of each application i want to enter in those groups and drag them to their respective folders.

Each Folder can then be dragged into the right partition of the dock and will fan out when clicked on.

If you want to have a icon as I have you can simply copy and paste it in the info view. Then convert the Display of each to folder by right clicking.

Speed Editing and Preference Manager

John Chappel over at Digital Rebellion has a nice blog with some great tips.In a recent post John talks about his methods for his Speed Editing he uses for work he does in broadcast. One thing he mentions that everyone one should be doing is customizing FCP with shortcuts via hot keys. Hot keys and button bars are a huge time saver for mundane tasks you have to do over and over so instead of mousing over for your tools like ripple or slide use the hot keys for them instead.(R and S are the hot keys to cycle through Ripple,Roll,Slide and Slip tools)

One thing I do working freelance is I take my custom layouts(windows and hot keys) via my preferences with me on a thumb drive wherever I go using a handy tool by non other then Digital Rebellion called Preference Manager which you can get right here Preference Manager . The good thing about this tool is it works for trashing , backing up and restoring for all FCP Studio Applications .
